  Introduction
  • Typhoid fever is endemic in Asia Pacific Region, the Indian subcontinent, Africa and South America. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has estimated 22 million cases of typhoid with about 2,00,000 deaths.

    Typhoid is an infectious disease caused by a bacteria Salmonella typhi. The source of the infectious agent are human carriers i.e. persons who excrete the bacteria through their faeces without having any symptoms. People get typhoid fever if they consume food or water indirectly contaminated with typhoid bacteria from carriers.

  • Detects both IgM and IgG antibodies to Salmonella typhi, the causative agent for typhoid (Enteric Fever)
  • Detects IgM and IgG separately and simultaneously, able to indicate the status of infection, acute, convalescence and previous exposure.
  • Sensitive and specific to Salmonella typhi (Typhoid)
   
Result Interpretation
IgM Positive Suggests acute typhoid fever
IgM and IgG Positive Suggests middle phase of typhoid fever
IgG Positive Suggests convalescent reinfection or relapse
Negative Probably not Typhoid Fever
